Lemon basil, also known as hoary basil, Thai lemon basil or Lao basil is a popular herb distinguished by its lemon fragrant, vibrant green leaves and distinctive flavour. It is commonly cultivated and cherished for its culinary versatility and distinct characteristics and is often used in Arab, Indonesian, Filipino, Lao, Malay, Indian, Persian and Thai cuisine.

Characteristics: Lemon basil is a fragrant herb known for its distinct lemony scent and flavor. It features glossy, green leaves that are slightly serrated, and it typically produces small white flowers. The plant thrives in warm conditions and prefers well-drained soil.

Culinary Uses: This herb is popular in various cuisines, especially in Southeast Asian dishes. It's often used in salads, marinades, and sauces, complementing seafood, chicken, and vegetable dishes. Lemon basil can also be infused in oils or added to herbal teas for a refreshing flavor.

🌱 Seedlings Height: Lemon basil generally grows to a height of about 30 to 60 cm, making it suitable for both garden beds and container planting.

📏 Space plants: The recommended spacing for basil plants will be provided soon, depending on specific growing conditions.

🥗 Harvest Time: Harvesting can begin about 60 to 90 days after planting, once the plant reaches a sufficient size. Leaves can be picked throughout the growing season, but it’s best to harvest before flowering for optimal flavor.

Fresh Breath Herb: In addition to its culinary uses, basil is sometimes used as a natural breath freshener. Chewing on a few leaves can help neutralise odours and leave your breath feeling fresher.

Rich in Nutrients: Basil is rich in essential nutrients, including vitamins A, C, and K, as well as manganese and antioxidants. It can be a valuable addition to your diet for its health benefits.

Companion Planting: Gardeners often use basil as a companion plant in vegetable gardens. It is believed to repel certain garden pests and attract beneficial insects, helping to protect neighbouring plants.
