While they can tolerate some shade, they flourish with plenty of sunlight.
Keep the soil damp but not waterlogged as the plants mature and fruit develops. Regular harvesting encourages more flowering and extends the plant's productive life. The chillies can be picked at any size and will continue to ripen, transitioning through yellow, orange, and red as they mature.
